Did you get a chance to listen to our mix cd A B.U. state of mind by DJ Mursi Layne? B.U. Spring/Summer 2011 collection is inspired by NYC.  I started my collection in 2000 in Brooklyn New York.  One of my most popular tee is inspired by the  I heart NY shirt.  I wanted the mix to have a lot of energy and be a collection of diverse sounds/culture because NYC is a melting pot.  Many people come here to pursue their dreams and goals.  This is a busy city and once you move here, you are grinding to make your dreams happen.  Buttafly Unltd. writer Tia Fortune writes it best when she describes how she felt when she first heard the B.U. mix.

The heartbeat of my city lies in the tenacity of my goals. The noise, venues, people, food, funk move me like the music as I walk on the path I am destined to knock on all doors and announce my presence.  It has always been the music that has brought me back to this city. This enormous vast pool of sinful pleasure, greatest lessons and unexplainable happiness from the smallest things, I finally rested in Brooklyn.

What most strikes me about this place was the progression of people, power, love, movement and soul that one cannot describe in words alone. It needs to be lived, felt, understood, bitten.  You need to have an affair with Brooklyn. Leave your anxiety, fears, doubts, and   prejudices to understand it.  Reminds me of the time a great artist friend of mine who I’ll call 6’7 took me to a speakeasy in the basement of beautiful brownstone. Til this day I have no idea where it is, but I know it was the best time I had in my life. Beautiful darkened curtains so thick I was expecting nothing but gargantuan chairs and gold tiles. Easy music played, low voices rolled and everyone was at ease. That night I was a fixture in the fun. The best song to describe that night is Black Coffee ft  Zakes Bantwini –Juju.  Stunning, undeniable ecstatic love and light of what you knew if you ever left you would never forget it.  Brooklyn was a first love, a first kiss, a risk you took and was pleased. I dancing as I write this because that’s what Brooklyn does for me it makes me dance. Summer sounds mixed with an extension of jazz with the ability to amuse, impress, and allow the heart to grow fonder. So sit back and relax, groove with me, groove with us, groove for the world and remember to B.U.!
